From The Intervals Collection by Payton James, inspired by transformative in-between moments and growth. Bold, linear elements juxtaposed with soft, atmospheric horizons.
This collection of paintings express the disconnected and fragmented sense of time during a liminal transition, presenting pieces that pay tribute to the past while simultaneously evoking a sense of the future. These works capture intervals of time within a single painting.
Fragmented
each panel: 36"x20"
Do you ever feel like you’re in two places at once? Like you’re not quite over who you used to be but also really trying to embrace the person you’re becoming. Pieces of who you are and who you are combined with fragments of time. This is a three-paneled painting painted on pieces of raw, unstretched canvas. Beneath the paint and texture is a layer of clear gesso to maintain the natural color of the raw canvas. An intentional unhemmed edge throughout the sides of each panel allow for threads of cotton duck canvas to hang freely, adding even more dimension to this original painting. This piece can be hung using command strips (placed already on the backs) or by adding clips (such as a binder clip or other metal clip).
